The Grand Staircase on Britannic

If Britannic, the last sister ship to Titanic, had not been pushed into service as a hospital ship in World War One after being launched, the “Grand Staircase” on Britannic, once completed, would have looked very different from those on Titanic and Olympic, as shown in the artist impressions above (along with a “what if” photo of what Britannic would have looked like as a passenger ship).

The most obvious differences in Britannic’s staircase would have been a painting within an elaborate frame, instead of a clock, on the half landing between the Boat Deck and A Deck, a different layout of the walls, another doorway leading into a corridor for additional cabins, an altered Boat Deck balcony, different types of flooring and furniture, and perhaps the biggest difference, a large pipe organ as the centerpiece of the atrium, set within the aft wall.
